UPDATED November 13, 2018

(Baltimore)—Bach in Baltimore announced today two holiday concerts to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Day. On Sunday, December 2 at 4 p.m., Bach in Baltimore performs A Baroque Christmas Concert the whole family can enjoy at the historic Grace and St. Peter’s Church at 707 Park Avenue in Baltimore. Then, on Monday, January 1 at 4 p.m., Bach in Baltimore welcomes 2019 with a New Year’s Day Baroque Celebration Concert at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 E. Lexington Street in Baltimore. After the concert, join us for a New Year’s Day Soiree at Germano’s Piattini, located at 300 S. High St., Little Italy, Baltimore.

Bach in Baltimore’s A Baroque Christmas features three magnificent and highly celebrated works sure to put you and your family in a festive mood. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Cantata 1, composed in Leipzig for Christmas Day, narrates the epic story of the birth of Jesus. Here Bach is at his creative best–opening the work with great fanfares in the brass and timpani followed by a picture in music of God coming down to earth. If that doesn’t fill you with Christmas spirit, Corelli’s Christmas Concerto and Vivaldi’s exuberant Gloria certainly will. The familiar “Gloria” text is the song that the angels first sang to welcome the birth of Jesus. The concert will also feature tenor arias from “Comfort Ye” and “Every Valley” from Handel’s Messiah. In addition to the joyous Bach Choir and Orchestra, the concert features four outstanding featured vocal soloists—Sarah Hayashi, soprano; Monica Reinagel, alto; Yoonshoo Shin, tenor; and Phil Collister, bass, and a jubilant performance by Howard High School Choir, as part of the Bach in Baltimore Student Voice Exchange Choir program. Admission for the event is $40 in advance or $42 at the door.

On January 1, Bach in Baltimore celebrates the arrival of 2019 with its annual New Year’s Day Baroque Celebration including an afternoon concert followed by a special three-course dinner. The concert showcases the beloved first-chair instrumentalists of the Bach in Baltimore Orchestra playing their favorite Baroque works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Telemann. Our New Year’s Day Baroque Celebration has become a cherished tradition for Baroque instrumental music enthusiasts. The featured musicians for the concert include Kim Valerio, flute; Gretchen Gettes, cello; Sandra Lisicky, oboe; Bozena Jedrzejczak Brown, harpsichord; and even Maestro T. Herbert Dimmock will join in the fun on organ. After the concert, the festivities will continue with a fundraising event at Germano’s Piattini, located at 300 S. High St., Little Italy, Baltimore. Enjoy a delicious three-course dinner and cabaret musical entertainment while supporting Bach in Baltimore. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.
