BACH IN BALTIMORE CELEBRATES THE HOLIDAYS WITH THREE CONCERT EVENTS

Today Bach in Baltimore announced three opportunities to celebrate the splendor and magic of the holiday season around the Baltimore metro region. Under the esteemed direction of Maestro T. Herbert Dimmock, the Bach in Baltimore Choir and Orchestra and special guests will perform three holiday themed concerts:  Christmas Classics on December 5 at First Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, New Year’s Day Baroque Celebration on January 1 at Zion Lutheran Church in Baltimore, and Winter Joys: Handel & Bach on January 2 at the Church of the Redeemer in Roland Park. On Sunday, December 5, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, Bach in Baltimore invites families to a concert of choral Christmas classics from Bach, Handel, and more. The program includes “Prepare Thyself,” Slumber softly,” “Großer Herr, o starker König” (Great Lord, O Powerful King), and the opening chorus from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Bach’s Uns ist ein Kind geboren (Unto us a child is born). Additionally, the choir is preparing a performance of “Comfort Ye” from Handel’s Messiah, as well as a selection of treasured Christmas Carols, including O Holy NightIn the bleak midwinter, Hark! The Herald Angels Singand We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The featured soloists for this performance include a trio of talented musicians: alto Gloria Park, tenor Dr. Min Jin, and baritone Timothy Mix.

The following month, on January 1 at Zion Lutheran Church in Baltimore, Bach in Baltimore hosts its annual New Year’s Day concert of festive Baroque instrumental favorites selected by the beloved first chair musicians of the Bach in Baltimore orchestra, including Celeste Blase, violin, Sandra Lisicky, oboe, Terry B. Ewell, bassoon, and Bozena Jedrezjcak Brown, harpsichord.

The very next day, on January 2, at the Church of the Redeemer in Roland Park, Bach in Baltimore performs an uplifting program of Baroque treasures selected to keep the spirit of the holidays alive. The program will include Handel’s Chandos Anthem: Oh Be Joyful in the Lord, from Psalm 100. This piece is paired with Bach’s Cantata 32: Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen (Dearest Jesus, my desire). The concert concludes with arias from Bach’s most famous and eternal song, Cantata 140: Wachet Auf (Sleepers Awake! A Voice is Calling). Soloists for this concert include soprano Ellie Yeonjung Kim, tenor Eric F. Carey, and bass Brian Ming Chu.

Admissions for each of these events are $25 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for children under twelve. Tickets must be purchased in advance, online at BachinBaltimore.org, or by calling 410-941-9262. Tickets will not be sold at the door to ensure touchless transactions. Patrons over the age of twelve will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 PCR test before admission into the venue. Children under the age of twelve who cannot receive vaccinations are exempt from this condition.
